Ethics And Values Of An Organization - 818 Words

The ethics and values that an Organizational Development (OD) professional follow are based on three philosophical principles. The three principles help to build the foundation of ethical values are utilitarianism, individual rights and distributive justice. Utilitarianism is defined as doing the greatest good for the greatest number (South University Online, 2015, para. 3). Individual rights incorporates the rights that each individual has that should be respected (South University Online, 2015, para. 3). Well distributive justice states that people that perform similar jobs should receive similar outcomes (South University Online, 2015, para.3). This foundation ensures that the action that creates the largest amount of good for the most amount of people is chosen, but it also ensure that each person is treated fairly as an individual. An OD professional can encounter many different ethical dilemmas. Many professionals agree that OD ethical values focus on â€Å"human develop ment, fairness, openness, choice and balancing of autonomy and constraint† (McLean, 2006, p.382). These areas are important for an OD practitioner to uphold to reduce the possibility of unethical practices. The human development area is important to uphold because it promotes the growth and does not hinder an individual or organization. For example, it would be ethical to provide training to develop staff before implementing a new process.
